Pathway Church has organized a community service project to clean and restore the many severely dilapidated headstones at Glenwood Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 15. They have enlisted the expertise of Jacob's Ladder Cemetery Restoration Specialists (www.stonesdoneright.com). The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will last most of the day. Volunteers can join in for what time they are able throughout the day.
Dave Snyder, owner of Jacob's Ladder, toured Glenwood with Pastor Richard Rea from Pathway and said all ages 10 and older can help. Work will include cleaning the moss and lichens from stones, restoring fallen stones to their original positions, sealing cracked stones and other types of stone cleaning and restoration. Snyder suggests volunteers bring gloves and goggles, and steel-toed shoes. A safety briefing will be conducted at 9 a.m., but group leaders will brief those arriving later as well.
Interested in helping out? Contact Leah Joyce at 346-5200 or Pastor Rea at 975-0383 or

It may have been hot enough to break a record for the date, but that didn’t stop visitors from celebrating the hottest root at the 24th Horseradish Festival on June 4 and 5 at Woodland Park.
“The record heat Saturday hurt our attendance numbers but we still had a nice crowd,” said Mike Pamatot, who co-chaired the event with his wife, Kim. “It appears that that our revenue will be close to last year’s record.”
The annual event, held at Woodland Park in Collinsville, features free entertainment, craft booths and vendors. Horseradish is in the limelight, especially this year when the root, a member of the mustard family, was named the Herb of the Year by the International Herb Association.
Activities at the event highlight the culinary applications of the root in the Bloody Mary contest and the recipe contest. Some of its sportier and recreational use of horseradish include root bagging contest, root golf and the latest addition, a root relay.
Next year’s 25th anniversary on June 2 and 3 at Woodland Park will include special events, Pamatot said.
“We’ve already got some ideas,” he said.
