It’s that time of year when a few local brave souls raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics by taking a bone-chilling dip into Carlyle Lake.
This year’s event is scheduled on Feb. 27 and already devoted volunteers, like Collinsville Police Chief Scott Williams, have already begun collecting pledges from friends, families and co-workers.
For those who would like to donate, simply visit http://www.firstgiving.com/scottwilliams119 and pledge support. The website also allows anyone interested in joining the team, or forming their own team, to go to the link, open the page and click on the right hand corner to join and register.
The jump begins at noon. Team members should arrive an hour early to be sure they are registered and free lunch will be served afterwards.
This year’s goal is to raise $5,000.
Proceeds benefit more than 22,000 athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. All donations will help provide athletes with intellectual disabilities the chance to participate in year-round sports training and competition.
